Sony entered the PDA market in mid-2000 with the introduction of the CLIE. All models are based on the Palm OS, have Memory Stick slot, and reflect stylish Sony design elements. Sony CLIE NX- Series PDAs Sony CLIE PEG-NX60 Sony CLIE PEG-NX70V Sony CLIE PEG-NX70V Sony CLIE PEG-NZ90V The CLIE NR-, NX-, and NZ- series handhelds are Sony's high-end feature-packed line of PDAs. When they were introduced, the NR- series of CLIEs represented 'radical departures' from traditional PDA design (lcd flanked by menu buttons). The new devices can be opened up to a v-shape configuration with optimal viewing of a rotating screen and access to an intergrated keyboard. Aside from the futuristic design, the new CLIEs are feature-packed for productivity, multimedia, and gamimg including high-resolution color screen, integrated digital audio player, included headphones, and an extensive application suite. The CLIE PEG-NX60 and CLIE PEG-NX70V, introduced in October 2000, replaced models from the NR- series (PEG-NR70 and PEG-NR70V, which had debuted earlier in 2002) and added some additional features including a more powerful processor (200MHz as opposed to 66 MHz in the NR- series) and voice recorder. The PEG-NX70V also features a built-in digital camera capable of capturing both still images and video clips. The CLIE PEG-NZ90 was then introduced at the Consumers Electronics Show (CES) on January 8, 2003. This model build on the strengths and successes of the NX- series models by adding integrated BlueTooth wireless, a slim folding cradle (great for travel), and an improved digital camera (2 Megapixels and 2X digital zoom with built-in flash and autofocus). July 2003 saw the introduction of the Clie NX73V and NX83V by Sony. Both models feature built-in digital video cameras and Compact Flash expansion slots. Sony CLIE SL- and SJ- Series Handhelds Sony CLIE PEG-SL10 Sony CLIE PEG-SJ20 Sony CLIE PEG-SJ30 The SL- and SJ- series of CLIE handhelds replaced the S- series (including PEG-S360) in mid-2002. The series are aimed at the entry level and budget-concious market. One of the key improvements over the S- series is a the higher resolution screen (320X320 as opposed to 160X160). The Sony CLIE PEG-SL10, which was introduced in July 2002, is aimed at the entry level market such as students. The affordable unit features a high-res monochrome screen, Jog Dial navigator for one-handed operation, 8 MB internal memory, and a Memory Stick slot. Rounding out the entry-level models, the CLIE PEG-SJ20 comes with larger internal memory (16 MB) and is rechargeable, wheras the CLIE PEG-SJ30 has a color screen. They are entry-level models with some nice features including color screens and 200 MHz processors.
